Frequency & Load

Grid frequency is just the spinning speed of the generator's rotor. At 50 Hz a 2-pole machine turns 3000 rpm.

Frequency only stays constant when mechanical power in (gas) exactly equals electrical power out (load). Any surplus accelerates the rotor and frequency rises; a deficit slows it and frequency falls.

Try it: open the breaker to go islanded, then nudge the Real Load up. Watch frequency sag until you add gas to rebalance.
